BUST wins a European Commission Grant to upscale food security in Bamenda City
The Bamenda University of Science and Technology was successful with its Grant application, submitted within a consortium of 24 partners to the EU’s call: Horizon Europe in 2022. The project is entitled: INtegrated and Circular Technologies for Sustainable city region FOOD systems in Africa - INCiTiS-FOOD. The objective of the project is to address food and nutrition security (FNS) in urban African cities, by promoting circular food production systems such as Recirculating Aquaculture Sytems, Aquacponics, aquaponics and insect farming. These production systems whould ensure that food security is sustaianbly enhanced in urban African cities, that is, in economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally friendly ways. BUST will concentrate in Bamenda city. Its innovative Living Laboratory – one of the eight envisaged in Africa – will ensure co-creation of knowledge with stakeholders in order to develop, test, adopt and disseminate gendered food systems that sustainably meets the needs of the people in Bamenda city. The project has a total budget of Euro 159,250. It is co-funded by the European Commision to the tune of Euro 153, 358; and will run from January 2023 to December 2026.
