Program Description and Objective: 

The Higher Institute offers both undergraduate and post graduate Programs in teacher education and this department strives to :- 

  1. Provide broad education that will endow students with an understanding of principles and practice of education, the control and management of both youths and adults in education and above all possess a sufficient degree of flexibility to meet up with increasingly changing technology of this day and age.
  2. Train students who will demonstrate excellence in leadership, human resource development, research in education and performance in assigned activities in the education industry.
  3. Train candidates who will examine and analyse issues in education with open and rational minds, bearing in mind individual differences in background, social and physical abilities.
  4. Train instructors who will demonstrate a high level of competence in using evaluative techniques and materials in a way to encourage children with whom they work to enhance their growth in meaningful ways,
  5. Shape Persons who will be versed in human rights and environmental education of their society, computer literacy and health
  6. Produce manpower that is consonant with the emerging dynamic quest for skilled teachers, counsellors, and school managers for sustainable national development.

 In the department of adult education both undergraduate and post graduate programs are offered to students with diverse backgrounds and fields of experiences which aim at:- 

  1. Training adult literacy teachers and adult management personnel for industrial and cooperative ventures.
  2. Educating coordinators and learners in various aspects of personal, societal or community development including the agricultural sector, primary health care, common initiative groups and NGOs, environmental protection, human capital formation and industrial human resources development among others

The department of Human Development, Guidance and Counseling also offers both undergraduate and post graduate programs with the aim of:- 

  1. Guiding human development and orientating individuals to become creative, knowledgeable, critically self-directed, and capable of living productive and purposeful lifestyles.
  2. Enabling candidates to be able to identify preventive methods and solutions faced by groups of individuals especially students and young workers.
  3. Making candidates knowledgeable in the methods and techniques that can be used in improving academic growth and development,
  4. Acquiring knowledge on vocational maturity, choices and social adjustments and better family life.

Entry Requirements: 

UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES For HND and Bachelor certification; 

  1. A Pass in Five ‘O’ Levels, that must include English Language and Mathematics.
  2. A Pass in Two “A”’ Levels in the relevant specialty the student wants to pursue in BUST. 
  3. BAC A; C; or D plus an English Proficiency Certificate
  4. Students from the National Cooperative Colleges, Regional Schools of Agriculture, Wild life, Forestry, Zoo -Technical Veterinary Medicine, Higher Teacher Training College (HTTCs) and Higher Technical Teacher Training Colleges (HTTTCs) are admitted into the Faculty on a case by case basis. Emphasis is placed on the “O” and “A” level requirements as described above as well as on performance records from precedent schools. A qualifying common entrance examination is also required of candidates.
  5. Direct admission for the third year Bachelors Degree program is reserved for Holders of HND or DIPES I or DIPET I.
  6. Foreign students must submit their diplomas with a certificate of equivalence issued by the Cameroon Ministry of Higher Education. 

For Masters, students must be holders of a Bachelors Degree in the relevant area of studies with a minimum Second Class Honours with a grade point of not less than 2.5 on a scale of 4. Holders of DIPES II or DIPET II from HTTC or HTTTC  can be admitted for a one year Professional M.ED, MA or M.Sc. Courses of BUST.

Graduation Requirements: 

Students must validate all University General and Institute Requirements (Tables I & II) as well as a minimum of 90 credits in the discipline of interest. All transfer students must fulfill at least one year residency, a minimum of 60 credits as well as the necessary University, Institute and Departmental requirements.
