Economics, Law and Management Sciences

Based on our academic and professional excellence, the Institute aspires to be number one provider of economics, law and management sciences education in the country and beyond.

  • To design competences in academic and professional fields of study for each student, by creating an environment where each student studies basic issues and frames in terms of knowledge integration and problem solving. In addition, each student by participating in community learning and living shall acquire a greater degree of social awareness.

Courses offerred: 

UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

1. Higher National Diploma (HND)

The HND is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education. The examination is taken at the end of the second year. The areas of study are:

  • Accounting,
  • Banking and Finance
  • Business Management
  • Marketing
  • Executive Secretarial Studies
  • Insurance
  • Public Service and Administration
  • Human Resource Management
  • Logistics and Transport.

2. Bachelor of Technology/Arts/Science (B.Tech; B.A.; B.Sc.)

Ministerial decision No 08/ 0124 of 5 May 2008 authorises BUST to offer Bachelor Degrees in the above areas of studies. The duration for Bachelor Degrees is three years minimum for full time students and one year for HND holders.
Students with the Advanced Level will be admitted direct in to the following programmes to obtain the Bachelors Degree but they must sit for and obtain the HND at the end of the second year to qualify for entry into the third year for the Bachelors Degree.

Department of Business Law

b) ECONOMICS (B.Sc.)

They will spend three years in the Higher Institute to obtain the Bachelors Degree.

 

POST GRADUATE STUDIES

The postgraduate school of the Higher Institute offers post graduate studies in the following fields up to the Masters Degree. The duration for these programs is two years for full time students.

Entry Requirements: 

Admission Requirements for HND and Bachelors Degree

  1. A pass in five Ordinary Level subjects at the GCE which should include English, and Mathematics.
  2. A pass in Two Advanced Level subjects one of which should be Economics.
  3. For the Bachelor of Law, LLB, the entry requirements are the same as above for O ‘level candidates, and for’ A’ level passes may include Philosophy or History.
  4. Foreign students have to submit a certificate of equivalence from the Cameroon Ministry of Higher Education with their diplomas.
  5. The Higher Institute accepts transfers from recognized Universities and Polytechnics in Cameroon and abroad. Such cases shall be considered from a thorough study of individual files and basic entry qualifications and performance in the previous schools.
  6. For admission to the Masters Degree programs students are required to have a Bachelors Degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a scale of 4.
  7. Graduates of the second cycle of Higher Teachers Training Colleges (ie. holders of DIPES II or DIPET II) can be admitted for a one year Masters Degree program in BUST. 

Graduation Requirements: 

  • All graduating students must satisfy A MINIMUM 30 credits of University General Education, 60 Credits of the Institute’s course requirements and 90 Credits worth of courses in areas of study.
  • Students must undergo internship as well as carry out independent research and write findings up according to the respective BUST formats.
  • Students shall present these reports in the presence of an examination committee i.e., case study for HND examinations and independent research for Bachelors and Masters certification.
